Accessibility

This page contains a list of supported accessibility features, with a brief description of what each feature does and where you can set it.

Gameplay: Accessible on launch

When you first launch the game, the Accessibility settings menu will appear, allowing you to adjust and configure general options. You can reopen this menu at any time from the main menu.


Gameplay: Adjustable difficulty

The following settings are available when starting an offline game. Select ‘Custom’ from the ‘New Game’ menu to access these.

Override Difficulty

Default, Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard.

Default is preset difficulty for game mode. Other options set overall difficulty.

Level Difficulty

Easy, Normal, Hard.

Type of hole on each level.

Normal will use the standard level layout for most holes but hard layout for the last hole of a group.

Hard will always use the hard layouts for every hole.

Overall Time Limit

Off, 2:00, 3:00, 5:00.

The overall time limit a player can spend on each hole before getting a time’s up.

Six Stroke Time Limit

On, Off.

This enables a shorter time limit once every player has reached 6 strokes on the hole.


You can also set the following global overrides for offline play. These are found in ‘Game Settings’ in ‘Settings’ menu.

This setting is the difficulty of offline play without having to go into ‘Custom’ options each time.

Reduced Game Speed

Reduces the speed of gameplay by one sixth.


Gameplay: Pausable

The game can be paused at any point, including during level intro sequences.


Audio: Custom Volume Controls

There are volume controls for every source of audio which you can adjust or mute as required. You can specifically disable music on the menus separately to in-game if required.

Volume controls may be found in the dedicated sound settings, or upon first launch in the accessibility menu.

The overall volume level for all audio.

Menu music

Menu SFX

The volume level of the interface such as button clicks.

Level intro music

Off, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%.

The volume level of the music during opening level sequences.

Game music

Off, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%.

The volume level of the music while playing. This music starts when you’ve hit your ball for the first time in a level.

Game action SFX

Off, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%.

The volume level of effects such as feedback sounds for excellent or perfect strokes.

Game ambient SFX

Off, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%.

The volume level of the environment such as ambience or ball hits.

Game win / loss SFX

Off, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%.

The volume level of the applause sounds played based on your strokes after entering the hole.

TTS Communication
(XBOX / PlayStation™)

System Default, Off, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, 100%.

The volume level for text-to-speech communications.


Audio: Spatial Audio

Enabled by default, this will give directionality to audio sources. This can help determine where the sound is coming from.

This setting can be found in sound settings or the first launch accessibility menu.


Visual: Color Options

This allows you to adjust the ingame HUD widgets based on both preset settings and individual colors for each element.

The preset setting may be found in both accessibily menu and game settings, whereas the individual color options may only be found in game settings.

The overall color theme for the heads up display.

These are presets that auto configure the other settings.

Idle power

Choice of 16 colors.

The color of the power indicator when idle.

Lowest power

Choice of 16 colors.

The color of the power indicator when lowest.

Highest power

Choice of 16 colors.

The color of the power indicator when highest.


Visual: Steady Camera

Golfing in Aether includes a couple of options to help steady the camera. By default ‘no bounce’ is set. No bounces will reduce bobbing and shakes from the ball bouncing vertically.

A second option ‘Camera lag’ will further steady the camera by following the ball with a short delay to cancel out any pinball-like horizontal impacts or bounces.

Visual: Contrast Options

From the initial accessibility menu as well as in the game settings you can set the menus and interface to both a medium contrast 4.5:1 mode and a high contrast 7:1 mode.

There is also additional settings to change the menu theme to be light or dark and adjust the accent color.

Input: Adjustable Input Sensitivity

You can adjust the sensitivity of each analog input as well as configure deadzones and invert individual axis.

The settings for these are based per function when you map an input, for instance camera or power. This is because there isn’t many analog controls so simplifies the setup needed.

How quickly your view rotates while moving the camera.

This is used in all states such as spectating and free camera as well.

How quickly power increases or decreases.


Input: Full Keyboard Support

The game is fully playable with just a keyboard and no other device on all desktop and console platforms. This includes being able to control the camera by default with the arrow keys.

On supported platforms (PC, XBOX) you can also access a keyboard setting menu and remap every key as required.


Input: Input Remapping

On all platforms you can fully remap the controller buttons, and adjust analog controls with settings for sensitivity and deadzones. You can also remap any additional inputs used for menu navigation.

Keyboard remapping is limited to PC and Xbox.


Input: No button holds

When enable you no longer have to hold down buttons to perform actions such as ‘hold to skip’ or launching the ball. Instead a button press will start the hold, and a second button press will release the hold.

This setting may be found in Controller Settings or the initial launch accessibility menu.

Input: No quicktime events

The game does not feature any quicktime events or similar so there is no setting to disable these.


Input: Single Stick Gameplay

If you require playing with just a single analog stick then there is a quick option to remap your controls to this in both the Controller Settings menu and the initial accessibility menu. On the Nintendo Switch this setting is automated when using a single Joy-Con.

When enabled free camera movement and camera movement will be combined where you move in the look direction and can only look left or right.

This will force all inputs to be done via a single stick.


Input: Text-to-speech Communications

On select platforms such as the XBOX and PlayStation™ you can enable Quick Chat messages to be read aloud using the platforms text-to-speech synthesiser.

Your system settings will be used by default where available, but the volume and voice may be overriden if required.
